Volunteer Recruitment for the 23rd World Congress of Soil Science | Join Us in Nanjing June 2026
Dear Soil Science Enthusiasts and Students, The 23rd World Congress of Soil Science (WCSS) will be held grandly in the ancient city of Nanjing from June 7 to 12, 2026. This global event for the soil science community, often dubbed the "Olympics" of soil science, is coming to China for the first time! Co-hosted by the International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS) and the Soil Science Society of China (SSSC), and organized by the Institute of Soil Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, this Congress marks China's debut as the host nation. We invite the world to jointly explore the theme "Soil and the Shared Future for Humanity" a critical topic for humanity's future. The event is expected to attract 4,000 participants, including 1,500 international guests. The Soil Judging Contest will be held from June 2 to 6, preceding the main Congress.
The success of this pinnacle event relies on a passionate, professional, and efficient volunteer team. We now officially invite you from around the globe to join us – become the welcoming face and solid support for WCSS2026!
Service Periods
●Soil Judging Contest: 2-6 June 2026
●World Congress of Soil Science: 7-12 June 2026
(You can choose one period or volunteer for the entire duration)
We Are Looking For You If You
1. Are primarily current undergraduate or postgraduate students, though individuals passionate about soil science are also welcome.
2. Have a background in soil science, environmental science, ecology, agronomy, geography, or related fields, or possess a strong interest in soil science research, and technology extension.
3. Demonstrate personal qualities including good health, responsible habits, dedication to public service, excellent communication skills, and team spirit.
4. Have good verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in other languages (e.g., Chinese, French, Spanish) is an advantage.
5. Better have a membership of a national soil science society and have registered the congress.

Successful applicants will be notified via email by the WCSS2026 organizing committee no later than February 28, 2026 (UTC+8). The results will also be announced on the WCSS2026 (https://www.23wcss.org.cn/) and IUSS (https://www.iuss.org) official website.
Additional Information
1. The Organizing Committee will review applications, publish the list of selected volunteers on the official Congress website, and organize online and offline training.
2. Necessary provisions, including insurance and volunteer attire, will be provided for officially selected volunteers.
